No. 34 | If you want to write a book

Marketing image for my free Inkwell webinar

Reader,

As a general rule, I'm loathe to send straight "marketing" emails to this list.

I've adopted my particular weekly rhythms because I like writing the emails I send. On Wednesdays, I get to reflect on the art and craft of writing. On Fridays, I get to chase whatever flight of fancy is delighting me that week. In both cases, I'm pretty sure I get just as much out of these emails as any reader does. The things I share with you are things that I'm learning. Indeed, the learning often happens as I write, which is at least half of the benefit of operating a newsletter.

And yet, sometimes, I'm up to things that I need share with you all. Things that you might actually want to know about.

Things like the two (!) teaching sessions I'm delivering next week.

Create a Personalized Atlas for Your Book Project

Next Tuesday (March 18), I'm delivering this free virtual webinar that's hosted by Liz Heflin and The Inkwell Community.

Who's it for? Writers who want to buckle down and write a book but don't know where to get started. We'll explore the steps to turn a hazy idea into a clear roadmap, discuss how the 5-draft model can build your motivation, and consider how to overcome common writing obstacles.

The webinar is at 9am PST / noon EST, but don't worry if you can't make it. Everyone who registers ahead of time will get free access to the recording. Register here!

Building a Roadmap for Your Business Book

My other event is specifically for my Nashville (and Nashville-area) folks: an in-person workshop hosted by The Porch.

In some ways, I'll be reviewing a lot of the same content covered in the virtual webinar. However, there are a couple of things that make this workshop special.

First, it's specifically geared towards "business writers" — by which I mean, "writers who write to further their business." It doesn't just mean people who write business literature. I've worked with a lot of people who write books as a way to establish their expertise and grow their business. This workshop is framed around the things I do with these clients.

Second, because this is a 2-hour in-person workshop with limited spots, these folks won't just get an information download. We're actually going to do some work while we're together. I'll be giving real-time input to attendees and suggesting next steps for them to make real progress on their dream of writing a book.

The class runs from 10am to noon CST at The Porch. Register here! (Last I checked, there were still a few spots left, but don't delay if you want to come out.)

I would love to see you at one of these events. And hey, if you know someone who might be interested, would you forward them this email?

Thanks a bunch.

And, as always, keep your stick on the ice.

Frank.
